CPA Experts McAllen AlternativeCPA McAllen, the rate on the receipt
A sale in the city carries 8.25 percent, and the books have to know it before the report does.

The rate that shows up on the receipt
For a shop or a clinic, the question becomes the rate on the receipt and the report that follows. On a receipt inside the city limits the combined sales tax is 8.25 percent. The state keeps 6.25 points of that rate. The city adds 2 points, which is as high as a Texas city can add. Hidalgo County adds nothing further, so the receipt is those two pieces and nothing else.
Neighboring cities are not all the same, and a delivery address can change the rate. Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, and several others sit at the same 8.25 percent total. Some smaller cities nearby sit lower. If you sell in more than one of them, the books have to know which sale happened where. A single bucket labeled sales tax is how a notice starts.
The report is a month, not a mood
Sales tax collected is not income. It is money you are holding. When it is mixed into sales, the month looks richer than it is, and the return looks heavier than it should. We pull it out. The payment then has a line to match. The relief, when the report ties, is a small thing and a real one.
The Comptroller's calendar, not a memory, sets the due habits. We do not publish a private timetable over the state's. If your facts are unusual, the call is where we look them up with you, not where a page guesses. What the page can say is that a report built from an unreconciled month is a report we will not bless.
A cookoff weekend, a back to school Saturday, a holiday market. The cash is happy and the batch is late. A fajita Saturday stays in that Saturday's month even when the card batch posts after the holiday. We would rather accrue the batch into the right month than let it decorate the next one.
Schools, renditions, and the worry of a letter
Most of the city is served by the McAllen Independent School District, with Valley View and Sharyland covering parts, and Our Lady of Sorrows School run by the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville. Parents feel that map in August. Owners feel a different map. Property renditions for most business property are due in April, and a written request can extend that to May. Protests of appraised value generally run to May 15, or thirty days after the notice, whichever is later.
We are not the appraisal district and we do not stand in a hearing for you as a matter of course. We do keep the asset list that a rendition is supposed to reflect. A truck still on the books after it was sold, or a buildout that was expensed and also capitalized, is how those filings go wrong. The fix is in the register, done before the form is filled in.
A letter from the state about sales tax is a specific fear, and it should be. The answer is the report, the worksheets, and the bank, not a speech. If you have a notice, send the notice. We read it against the months. If the months were never closed, the first work is the months.
What a clean sales month looks like
Deposits match the batches. Batches match the sales. Tax collected matches the rate for the place of the sale. Exemptions have a certificate you can find. Use tax on a big online purchase is not forgotten just because no one collected it at the counter. None of that requires a dramatic system. It requires the same tie out every month.
Franchise tax is a different report, usually in May, and being under the no tax due line does not excuse the filing. We keep that date on the year line on the home, beside the sales rhythm, so May does not arrive as a surprise on top of an open April.
If you sell taxable and nontaxable in the same ticket, the books should split them. A blended rate that feels about right is how the notice gets its number. About right is not a method.
Exemption certificates belong in a folder you can open, not in a story you remember. A resale claim without the certificate is a taxable sale until the paper exists. We ask for the paper while the month is open. Hunting for it after the report already went out is how a small difference becomes a letter.
Use tax is the quiet cousin. A large online purchase for the shop, with no tax collected at checkout, is still a tax the books should show. The box arrives like any other box, which is why owners forget it. We ask about those purchases while we close, before the report goes.
Where this sits in the year
Sales tax is the present, every month. Rendition is the spring. The income tax return is the year those months add up to. They are one set of books. Treating them as three vendors who never speak is how the return fights the sales reports.
We keep them in one conversation. You still run the shop. The screen is the visit. We will not narrate the city as if we kept a storefront beside the schools. The shared books and the day of the close are the whole geography of the work.
